Many people say to eat your carbs right after a workout because the carbs go straight to the muscle as well as using less insulin. This will also keep the carbs from going to fat. Although many people believe in eating carbs right after a workout, what would happen if you did not eat anything after a workout? There was a French study that had to groups of athletes, one group eating carbs throughout the day and the other only at breakfast and lunch. The group that ate carbs throughout the day showed little to no improvement on their performance, but the “breakfast-lunch” group showed a lot of improvement. The “breakfast-lunch” group showed improvement for their submaximal efficiency. As well as improved submaximal efficiency, they were also able to cycle 150% of their Vo2max a little longer than before. They also improved their 10k run time by 3-5% while the other group only improved by .10%. So, if you would like to improve, maybe having your carbs at only breakfast and lunch will benefit you.
