Spinal cord injuries are very serious because of the widespread damage that can be done. This can range from pain to actual paralysis.
Apparently oxygen can help with this at least to some extent. It increases blood flow which is good for the nerves in the spinal cord. This can make them (the nerves) more active.

- By elevating oxygen in the spinal cord we can improve function and re-establish activity in different parts of the body.
- We can now design treatments that improve blood flow to produce long-term rehabilitation after SCI.
