For most people, their backs are fairly stiff and are not working as they should be. Because of our lifestyle that involves so much sitting, our thoracic spine is not working as it should be. The thoracic spine is what should be used to rotate the spine more than the lumbar, but because we do so much sitting in our everyday life it is the opposite.
So, how can we fix this problem in our spine. What we can do is to do exercises and stretches revolving around rotational movement. One of these kinds of exercises is the “diagonal sit with a twist.” To perform this exercise all you need is a foam roller and the floor. First place the foam roller on the floor and lay on the foam roller with your side.
Place one leg in front of the other and twist your body from right to left, being sure to reach the full extension. As your thoracic spine begins to get stronger, you will feel more stability in your various lifts as well as everyday movement.
