The CopperRed™ Collection: Red Light for Pain Relief, Recovery, and Performance

Copper Compression’s CopperRed™ Collection harnesses the power of red and near-infrared light therapy to help relieve chronic pain, speed up recovery, and boost performance. Red light therapy – also known as photobiomodulation – is a safe, non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of red (around 660 nm) and near-infrared (around 850 nm) light to penetrate deep into muscles and joints. This light energy is absorbed by mitochondria in cells, increasing production of ATP (cellular energy) and releasing nitric oxide, which improves circulation. The result is enhanced cellular repair, reduced inflammation, and accelerated healing in tissues.

Chronic Pain Relief Backed by Science

Extensive research shows that red and near-infrared light can significantly reduce chronic pain and inflammation. In fact, clinical studies and meta-analyses have found that low-level light treatments provide effective pain relief for various musculoskeletal conditions. By suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and boosting anti-inflammatory processes, red light therapy helps alleviate pain from issues like arthritis, tendinitis, joint injuries, and back pain. For example, trials have demonstrated reduced pain and improved function in patients with osteoarthritis, tendonitis (such as tennis elbow), and chronic lower back pain after using therapeutic red/infrared light. This drug-free approach addresses pain at the source – by promoting tissue healing and calming inflammation – offering a natural alternative to pain medications.

    Faster Injury Recovery and Healing

Originally developed through NASA-funded research to aid astronauts, red light therapy has proven to accelerate the body’s healing processes. The increased cellular energy and blood flow from CopperRed™ technology help damaged muscles and tissues repair more quickly. Medical studies have shown that high-intensity red and infrared LED treatments can speed up wound closure and tissue growth, even in low-oxygen conditions. In one study with military personnel, adding red light therapy led to over 40% faster improvement in musculoskeletal injury recovery and nearly 50% faster healing of certain wounds compared to standard recovery. Athletes and physical therapy patients using red light have reported less swelling and stiffness after injury, allowing them to regain mobility faster. By boosting circulation and collagen production, this therapy supports the body’s natural regeneration, meaning you can recover from sprains, strains, and workouts more rapidly.

    Enhancing Athletic Performance

Beyond recovery, red and near-infrared light can also give an edge in athletic performance. Emerging research indicates that treating muscles with red light before exercise can improve endurance and strength. In controlled trials, athletes who received photobiomodulation therapy before workouts were able to exercise longer before fatigue set in, and they experienced less post-exercise muscle soreness. A systematic review of sports science studies concluded that red light therapy notably increased muscle performance (for instance, allowing more repetitions and extended time to exhaustion) and aided muscle recovery when used prior to training. By reducing oxidative stress and muscle damage, CopperRed™ technology helps muscles perform at their peak and bounce back quicker. Even for non-athletes, this means less fatigue and more capacity to stay active without overtraining effects.
